We love sharing our vendors' stories and how their booths came to be. This week we're spotlighting "The Tattered Rabbit" in our Vendor Spotlight.
Hi, my name is Theresa. I teach special needs students in Springdale and have been a teacher for 27 years. I am happily married to my husband, David, of almost 30 years. We have two beautiful daughters, Darbi and Sydni. My husband helps me find pieces to paint, he loves Craigslist! My daughters are great at giving me feedback and keeping me up-to-date on what is in style.
How I came to have a booth at Midtown is somewhat long and roundabout - my Grandmother passed away and I was given some of her wooden furniture. Since it didn't look the best, I didn't know what to do with it. I remembered that my Grandmother never threw anything away, she just repurposed it or painted it to look new...so that's exactly what I decided to do. I painted the furnitute knowing that she would approve. When my youngest daughter Sydni moved to Branson, she got her first apartment. She wanted to decorate it very distinctly in her own style. We were on a tight budget; therefore, we bought her very inexpensive, older furniture and painted or repurposed it to fit her style (that was my second time to try my hand at painting furniture). When my oldest daughter, Darbi, saw her sister's apartment, she decided that since she was moving into a new apartment I should help her redecorate by painting and repurposing yard sale and resale finds for her as well (my third stab at painting furniture). By this time, I decided that I actually liked taking furniture that I wouldn't have looked at twice before and make it into something beautiful and appealing. I decided to open a booth and do just that! I've known Debbie for a long time, so it only made since to open one at Midtown Mall.
The name "The Tattered Rabbit" came about by accident as I was trying to think of a name that would embody my childhood memories of watching my Grandmother take old things and make them new, as well as incorporate my love for old pieces. We've all seen a child carry around their most treasured tattered stuffed animal when they have brand new ones sitting around. It's always the old tattered ones that are the most loved! So, that's how I came up with the name. I love taking old pieces that have been loved and making them new for someone else to take and love!
I don't have a distinct style, but I do look for pieces with clean lines, nice design\detail and pieces that are sturdy. I also love to find unique pieces to add character to a home, whether it's furniture, pictures, kitchen items, etc. This has just become a passion of mine and if you could see all of the furniture waiting to be painted that's sitting on my front porch and in my kitchen, you might even say it's an obsession!
Theresa will also custom paint any piece in her booth to match your color scheme. She has a beautiful hutch & vintage vanity with matching nightstand just waiting for a coat of paint.
We agree with Theresa...there's little a coat of paint and a little love can't fix.
Stop in to Midtown and check out The Tattered Rabbit!
