Farmhouse Style

August 7, 2016

I'm sure you've heard of Joanna Gaines, watched "Fixer Upper" on HGTV and have noticed how hot farmhouse style decor has become. Why the current demand for such a low-key style? I believe it's because farmhouse style decor is one that makes your home feel warm and cozy, is easy to achieve while staying within a budget and utilizes repurposing things you already have.

I'm sharing 4 simple ideas today on how to add some farmhouse style to your abode...

1. Natural WoodMost farmhouses have white/light walls. This allows natural wood furniture & decor pieces to really pop.

How beautiful would this wood cabinet be against a shiplap wall filled with vintage treasures, like your grandmother's china or some old school books?

Or these wood old window panes hanging on a wall or layered against the wall on the mantel?

2. Vintage & Antique Pieces - I love this idea the most! When you buy an antique or vintage piece, you're also buying a story. New furniture is nice, but when I buy an antique I love to imagine the story that comes with it. The places it's been, the generations that have enjoyed it in their home, etc. Antiques have character. They don't need to be in perfect condition. A knick or scratch adds a special element and allows for a more relaxed style.

How neat would these antique bed pieces look hanging on the wall as a decorative element? The rust and patina make them even more perfect!

This Old Wood Tool Chest would make a great coffee table. Imagine the tools that were once stored in this?

Old windows are great to prop up on the mantel for quick decor or one of these old screen doors up against a wall in your home. Imagine hanging one in place of the pantry door?

Sprinkling antiques and vintage pieces on shelves is also a great way to add a farmhouse element to any space.

3. Painted Furniture - Another one of my favorites, because you can repurpose what you already have. Have the perfect piece of furniture, but don't care for the color? Paint it! Midtown Mall offers an entire line of Plaster Paint, the perfect paint to transform any piece of furniture.

4. Farm Elements - We can't forget about all of those traditional elements that says "farmhouse," like...

Milk cans, galvanized buckets and old tin coffee cans filled with succulents.

And of course, the iconic church pew...

Old wood chairs, baskets, mason jars.

And vintage books are the perfect finishing touch.
